Bento Lunches
Egg Drop Soup
22nd-Feb-2009 06:11 pm

I got a packet of egg drop soup and it was delicious, so I put it in my new bento for tomorrow. Also with apple chicken, rice hearts and cucumber stars = ) This is the finished Font Bento I made, more pictures are on my newest journal post. I have 2 extras for sale there too.

Nice. I was expecting alphabet soup in a Font bento!

LOL! That would be great xD I should make some alphabet soup for it.

Does soup travel well in the 2-tiered boxes? I assume it's like a regular 2-tiered that uses a band instead of sealing tight?
23rd-Feb-2009 12:33 am (UTC)
Actually the top tier seals on very tightly, and soup travels well, though I always use an extra band and carry mine around by hand and try and keep it upright.

By seal tightly, I meant like a seal on rubbermaid or tupperware, not the pressure kind of seal a bento box has. At least, none of mine have that kind of a tight seal on them.

By extra band, do you mean you use two?

The top tier seals on like a disposable ziplock container, which is what I use for tupperware. And yes, I mean I use two bands instead of just one.

What brand box do you have? Mine doesn't seal unless I put a band on it and it pressure seals :(

I'm using the 'natural lunch' Bento Boxes from ichibankan = )

Hmmm. i'll have to try them out. I have the bunny box and the seal on it really sucks. I also have the grapes box - it's not too bad, but I still wouldn't trust soup in it!

me too, that's why I was curious if it worked...I mean, I've had non liquidy things leak before.

I don't usually pack soup for my boyfriend, but when I do, I put it in a lock and lock container.

OK I'm curious about the box. "you made this"? The lettering? How?! It's absolutely AWESOME! I WANTS!
23rd-Feb-2009 12:56 am (UTC)
Yep, I designed the image in photoshop using all my wonderful fonts (I'm a complete font collector, over 200 xD and I never get to use most of them!) and then I printed it out on water slide decal paper and applied it to the blank boxes. If you want one I still have one left, someone already bought the first one = )

this is awesome!

you should totally go into business. ^_^

reminds me of a friend of mine who created several sets of beautiful stainless steel chopsticks for a Mechanical Engineering / Product Design class. he put a little magnetic core in them and created a metal mount that went on the wall that you could stick them to. he even anodized some of the sets to have a nice black protective coating.

Wow, those sound like wicked awesome chopsticks! it makes me think of my stepgrandfather's shop, he's got a big magnetic strip along the wall to put all his tools on XD And I'm actually kind of going into business, or at least I'm selling them through my LJ site and I have intentions on making more to sell. I might even have someone interested in making bags and bands with me and making a cohesive bento set! that would be wonderful.

As an illustrator I would never take someone elses image or character/idea and use it for anything, especially something I had intention to sell, but a hello Cthulhu box WOULD be adorable. And yes they will be much more waterproof when I get some micro sol today = ) As it stands they seem pretty water resistant from what I've tested.

That's a cute box!
