What are steel-cut oats?

Steel-cut oats are soooo yummy. The are also called pinhead oats, coarse-cut oats, or Irish oats. Scotch oats are similar, but a finer cut. They are whole oat kernels (the groat) that has been cut into 2 or 3 pieces. It has a sort-of nutty flavor and a chewy texture. They are SUPER filling and stay with you for a long time. It takes some time to cook (around 15-20 minutes) but it holds up really well in the fridge. I cook several servings at once, then store in fridge, then and eat them either cold/room temp or nuke it (just add a tablespoonful of milk our water to loosen it up a little.) I've also heard that you can overnight cook them in a crock-pot (1 part oats to 3 parts liquid) but I've never tried it.

They stick together really well once room temp/cool. I've made faux onigiri with them before (filled with dried, rehydrated, chopped cranberries, cherries, and apricots.)

Wow! That looks so good! I'm gonna re-think my breakfast 'bentos' (they aren't really bentos, just a grapefruit and 2 of WW's Breakfast Wontons). Awesome bento!

Breakfast Wontons? I've not seen these. What are they? (They sound good!)

Oh, it's a recipe on WW online. Just look for "Fruit-Filled Breakfast Wontons". They're super easy to make and you can change the filling to whatever you want (I like low fat cream cheese and cherry preserves). They are very bento-friendly. :)

Ooh, I love Irish Oats (That's what I grew up calling them), I like to add Walnuts, Blueberries and Maple Syrup. I ususally stick them in a thermos, but next time I will try them in the box.

Oh that sounds SUPER yummy, esp after your description of the oats. Where do you get them???? I love how you told us the WW pt value as a fellow WWer!!

I have to look up Breakfast wontons! It sounds like it is just wonton wrappers, boiled for one minute, then baked, right?

I can always find them at Trader Joe's. I've also had luck at Kroger in the health/organic food area. I usually have luck finding them in independently owned small, upscale grocery/specialty shops.

I just started WW about 2 weeks ago (my mom has been doing it for about 7 months now). I really like it, but can never eat all my points. I usually have 5-15 points left at 11 o'clock at night!

I've never had their pomegranate yogurt, though, just the honey & plain yogurt.

What a lovely breakfast. (The yogurt you have is one of my favorites.)

I miss oats. I used to make a big pot of steel-cut oats and freeze individual portions, so I just had to grab a container and go. (They microwave well.) (You may have just given me an excuse to shop for gluten-free oats. Thanks!)

I may have to do something more along the lines of what you have for breakfast. My yogurt, puffed rice and veggies just aren't cutting it.

Is the pomegranate flavor of that yogurt good? I remember that I got the honey greek yogurt from Trader Joe's and I didn't like it very much. I like regular greek yogurt, though.

I was disappointed with it. It was okay, but not really any pomegranate flavor (and it was a funny gray color!)
