553: soba

Look, it must be Friday! Soba with Thai peanut sauce, eggs, cucumber, carrot, broccoli and a raspberry. Strawberries in the cup and extra peanut sauce in the bunny. I tried to make girl and boy eggs (yay for faces!) with mamenori accents.

Bento #7 and #8

Both are pretty self-explanatory.

This is the first time I've tried a checkered apple. It turned out pretty decently, but I definitely need a sharper knife. :)

This weeks bentos

I've been making a bento pretty much every day for my husband but these are the best two from last week.

BBQ lunch BBQ lunch
I sliced mini-pitas in half and used meatballs for the burgers. There is also a little piece of cheese in each one. There are mixed pickles, mini corn, a sauce contain of ketchup and mustard, a lollipop and kiwi.
Soup To Go Soup To Go
In the lettuce dish I have a instant soup kit. The note reads "Put in a mug and add hot water." It includes some instant Japanese broth, green onions, spinach, a 1/4 of a pack of noodles, some spices and wasabi (in the monkey). The lower left contains a layer of rice topped with tuna in thai peanut sauce and mixed veggies. The lower right has a granola bar, wasabi dried peas and tried apricots.

Chicken chow mein and a cautionary post

This was yesterday's lunch: Chicken and mushroom chow mein with a side of steamed broccoli florets. As usual, they were dinner leftovers and I just packed the noodles and added the broccoli when the husband was washing up after dinner. Recipe for the chow mein can be found here.

This second bit is not bento-related but might be useful information for anyone who cooks. There has been a distinct lack of bento and just general cooking since I cut myself quite badly with a knife a few days ago. I now have 5 stitches in my left thumb. Hopefully this will not happen to you but cooking does have the risk of cuts and burns. Making bento while bleary eyed in the morning is not the best, but no matter how careful you are, accidents can still happen. It is important to have a good first aid kit at home and know what to do. I have written up an article over at Soy and Pepper in case other people will find the information useful. I am ok now. The wound is healing nicely although it looks very ugly with the black stitches. My tummy still do a little flip though whenever I replay in my mind that moment when the knife went into my thumb...

Going out of Bento Sale

I recently decide to stop doing bento. Mind you I love doing it but I don't do it often enough to really have all the unused bento things I own. I figure what I'm selling is good for a starter and would allow on to have various size bento to find the perfect one for them. I'm not even sure if this post is allowed but I saw someone else made one so if it's not just delete it. I do love looking at your guys pretty bento and yummy foods.

Bidding started at 99 cents and no reserve.

Yaay Chococat

Long time no post.  Mostly because I don't know how to get this pictures out of my new camera.  Oh I am so old.

Chococat on and in the box.  Sandwich with fruit roll up chococat (Target has these fruit leather things that are about 1mm thick and cut very easily and come in dark colors - nice for nori-hating kids), eyes of cheese and sprinkles, flag of cheese.  fruit & veg accents.  I think I posted earlier that I have an extra unopened chococat box (also a cinamaroll box) that I would be willing to part with if anybody is interested - I can send you pics if you like (now that I know how to get them out of the camera)

Joe Cool Lunch

One more - sorry; I suppose I could have used the cut for this

Sandwich cut with circle cutter, pasta hair, fruit roll up sunglasses, pepper nose & mouth.  Lettuce & broccoli accents.  Fruit below.  Not crazy about that empty space below - it didn't look that bad outside of the photo - maybe the flash made it worse.
