See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Bento #32!

This was yesterday's bento lunch for my hubby.

Those croquettes are supposed to be the Three Wise Monkeys, but they look more like bears or cats to me...-__-. I should have put the ears on the sides to make them look more like monkeys, but everyone knows cutting nori is a pain and I didn't feel like starting over!

More details here...

Bento backlog! Bento # 7

Left box: Rice, carrots, lima beans and white corn mix, and shrimp
Right box: Peanut butter and strawberry sandwiches, pecans

As I am moving at the end of the month I am really trying to go through the food I have so I won't have to pack it up and take it with me. So this bento is made completely of the odds and ends I could find around the house. The little sandwiches are made out of the last few pieces of bread that were too stale to make complete sandwiches out of. Some of my last pieces of shrimp make a heart shape to compliment the sandwiches.

No worry, beef curry.

The other night husband and I went to Curry House for dinner.  He's never been there before and I haven't been in AGES.  Unfortunately, Curry House doesn't carry scallops anymore for my self-thought-up dish with scallops and wild mushrooms.

Bummer. :(

I decided to try the shabu shabu beef curry with wild mushrooms and corn croquettes on top.  Fabulous!  I saved the leftovers for bento.

Shabu shabu beef with one lonely corn, rice with giraffe cut out, fukujinzuke.

Those pickles that they serve... Oh man.  Its so good.  Put some rice and curry on your spoon and a few pieces of the fukujinzuke. MmmMMMm!

Happy Friday!

Yay Friday! I don't know about you, but I am very glad it's Friday. Today's bento is simple, but that doesn't mean it isn't delicious! In planning meals for next week, I really need to take my husband into consideration. He's been giving me puppy eyes in the evening as I make my bento, asking, "Don't I get a bento?". *Sigh* So pathetic. ;) So I'll need to make sure I either make enough food at dinner or get enough extras at the grocery for his bentos too.

Today's bento comes to 4 Weight Watchers points.

This bento contains:
1/2 serving of Penne w/ Olives & Sun-Dried Tomatoes (2.5 points)
1/4 cup 1% cottage cheese (1 point)
cucumber flowers (0 points)
6 cherry tomatoes (0 points)
1/4 cup edamame (.5 points)

Baked Potato bento

Top Tier: Caprese salad, cheddar cheese cubes, slices of beef bologna, grapes, kiwi slices.

I have a debilitating weakness for bologna. Its a curse I'm resigned to living with.

Bento Gear Alert: Dollar Tree Easter Candy sauce bottles

Hey, I hope this post is ok for the community. I thought there might be a lot of people interested in these bottles I spotted, since they're out for the Easter stuff. >^_^<

I saw these 8 packs of flavored powder candy in carrot bottles called "Sweet Quenchers".

The carrot bottles are 4 inches tall including their leaf caps- about 3 3/4 inches being the carrot. They are 3/4 of an inch wide at the widest part, and the bottle openings are 1/4 of an inch wide. They can hold 16 ml. The plastic they are made of is thin and easily squeezed.

I tried filling one with water and shook it up. The water did come out, but only a very small amount which required violent shaking or actual squeezing. I think they'd be fine for soy sauce, and I plan to try one out as a mustard bottle when I have a chance.

My sister's first bento

My sister's first bento, originally uploaded by Semioticghosts.

(Hello from a very occasional poster and frequent lurker)

My sister had come to visit for a day and a bit. Her way back involved travelling all the way to London and through London to Heathrow on one of the G20 days, leaving at the crack of dawn. It was a -long- journey.
She's never had a bento, so I made her a disposable low carb one (her preference) to take along. Clockwise from top are a container of reduced-fat hummus, radishes with a broken cheese chick, poached chicken breast slices, carrots and tomatoes, with green pepper decorations, soy sauce in the pig and salt in the pink straw.

She says she ate it all.

I miss her.

First post

Hi! I’ve been following bentolunch on and off for a while now and am here now via jokergirl to make a first post.

I’ve been using a Zojirushi lunch jar that I got as a birthday gift; it’s actually been a great incentive to pack a lunch, though I’ve only now started making things that were worthy of showing off.

Left-to-right: miso soup, oranges & grapes, onigiri
This one, Friday’s lunch, was the only complete picture I’ve got; there’s a photo of the preparation and lunch on Monday under the cut.
