Gyoza. LOVE :D

I'm not a big fan of gyoza, but this particular one, with the shiso leaves, is really lovely. The shiso adds a distinctively refreshing bite, reminiscent of mint but not quite. I was so glad I tried it out.

Heehee. Got curious and googled shiso. Apparently, it is a kind / relative of mint leaves! No wonder :D

I agree with your outlook on bento...who cares what's in it, put what YOU like/tastes good! and empty spaces are sad spaces :(

I just got some kewpie mayo at the latin/asian market. What do people use it for? (I don't cook a lot of Asian meals.)

Everything you'd use other mayo for? Potato salad, sandwiches, veggie dip... It really is just mayonnaise. It's not really "asian." It's like... yoshoku? Western cuisine with a Japanese flair.

Personally, I've begun preferring Kewpie mayo over western mayo. It tastes a bit richer and fuller flavored. ALthough I guess that means more calories too! =))

Thank you :D this particular pre-made ones area really good. It's from a Japanese grocery that sells mostly to Japanese expats so I guess the quality has to be authentic / good. Are they difficult to make? I've never tried to make them myself, although a Japanese friend's mother is offering to teach us how to make them :D

I'm with you on that. I love croquettes but have never tried making them. All my encounters with them are the ready fry version. It helps that Hatchin has really delicious ones so I get lazy and just opt to buy. It even comes in various flavors (karee anyone?) but I love their cream version the best.

KANI cream korokke? *drools too* By any chance are we going to see a tutorial on your site? :D *crosses fingers*

Maybe. Seriously, I've been looking for frozen kani cream korokke for a while now -- no success. It may be time to resort to homemade!
