The lj cuts do not show up because this is a direct link; this makes the post a little difficult to find what you're looking for. If you are looking for a particular city, it's best to use your browser's search function for the state. The list is in alphabetical order by country, then by state, then my city. Some cities are grouped together if they're in the same general area.

17th-Jul-2007 10:36 pm (UTC) - Bento in Baltimore
I was reminded by a recent post that people are looking for bento in Baltimore, my hometown too. So add this to the list:

Atomic Pop
3620 Falls Rd.
Baltimore, MD 21211 USA
http://atomicbooks.com/results.php?ep=171&cat=171

Follow the link above, it shows what the store stocks in terms of bento. And don't forget to browse Atomic Books while you're getting your bento fix, it's a great place to hang out.
12th-Aug-2007 10:52 pm (UTC) - Spokane,WA
Bay Oriental is a decent sized grocery store, with a huge snack collection and a good section of Japanese food. They also carry kitchen items. They don't have bento's, at this time at least, they are constantly adding more stuff. They do have the stacking chinese style lunch boxes and occasionally they have the collapsible sandwich boxes. Tons of fresh produce as well. They are very helpful and their prices rock! You can go in with $20 and walk out with several shopping bags full.

Bay Oriental Market
1801 East Sprague Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202

There is another oriental food store I still need to check out as well, will post once I have!
16th-Aug-2007 02:06 pm (UTC) - Small Correction
Just a little note:

Boo Han Market / Hyundai Foods
9122 S. Tacoma Way
Tacoma, WA, 98499
(253) 588-7300

is actually in LAKEWOOD, WA, not Tacoma. It won't come up on Google maps unless the city is right ^_~

I'd like to add another location to the Los Angeles, CA area.

Tokyo Japanese Outlet
2109 Sawtelle Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90025

Tokyo Japanese Outlet carries cute and traditional bento boxes, bento bags, chopsticks, and chopstick cases. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good look at their prices because I was casually browsing the store for other items. I'm sure the prices are not more than $10.
27th-Aug-2007 03:08 am (UTC) - Albuquerque
Great reference!

I was in Albuquerque NM over the summer and stopped by Nia & Co, so here's a bit more information: Next door (in the same building) to Ta Lin Market, which is also on your list. At least half their inventory is Sanrio products. When we visited, though, their lunch gear was limited to character lunch-bags with zippered compartments for tupperware. (And one child-sized Hello Kitty bento box.) Still, they may be willing to special-order something. Their hours are pretty restricted (they are closed at least one weekday) so calling first is recommended (505.268.0206, although that might be out of date).
6th-Sep-2007 07:58 pm (UTC) - SF Bay Area addition
There's now a Daiso in Union City, CA (almost in Fremont). Apparently it's bigger than the one in Daly City. It has egg molds, the standard boxes, and much more (flags, picks, soy sauce containers, etc.).

1785 Decoto Rd
Union City, CA, 94587

A Daiso not so recently opened in Bellingham, WA, it's in the Bellis Fair Mall:

Bellis Fair
One Bellis Fair Parkway
Bellingham, Washington 98226
(360) 671-5895

They have the normal fair, boxes, bags, cutters, sauce/side dish containers, etc. Also they have a huge section of regular resealable food containers.
23rd-Sep-2007 08:01 pm (UTC) - Kansas City metro
Surely I'm not the only one here attempting to bento...

Best luck has been @:

Oriental Supermarket
(913) 341-3345
10336 Metcalf Ave
Overland Park, KS 66212

Finds include Leaflet Tight 650ml box w/ divider, Inomata box w/ the 4 removable cups (they have 2 sizes, huge and more huge), and some basic rice molds (standard onigiri, futomaki, and the one w/ the star/heart/flower/triangle shapes). Last time I was there they had the 2-tier Urara mustard yellow sakura box plus matching bag and strap, also saw some plain white chopsticks in a plastic case.

Williams Sonoma on the Plaza still has the ice cream molds - you have to ask for them b/c they are no longer out on the floor, they are stocked in the back, $9.95. (cow/pig/star shapes) Now if only I could find the heart/circle-square set @ at my local WalMart, **sigh**.

And of the Dollar Tree Stores, the one in KCK (78th/State @ Wyandotte Plaza) had the best selection - 3 styles of HK boxes in all 3 colors still available as of last week. Matching drink holders were aplenty in blue and green. In a few wks, going to attempt to customize --> decoupage w/ some cool stickers and a gallon of Mod Podge.

Gas has gotten too $$ to go driving around on fruitless searches for bento supplies, so if anyone else in the area has found a bento jackpot, would love to hear about it!
6th-Oct-2007 01:53 pm (UTC) - Russian supplies
Two shops, both in Moscow:

Japro Supermarket
Dom 2, Entrance 2, Prospect Mira (close to Suharevskaya metro)
Downstairs is a pokey supermarket, upstairs is a large selection of imported food items (inari-sushi pouches, furikake, large (and so cheap) bags of pickled ginger and nori) and a 59-ruble section. Plain bentos appear sometimes, basic laquer-style boxes always in stock, as are tupperware boxes, bowls, chopsticks and onigiri molds.

1000 Melochei
39/1 Leninsky Prospekt (Leninsky Prospect metro)
"1000 things" stocks all sorts of kitchen bits, dig in and you might find Chinese-made bento boxes or even a Russian "bento" with food cups inside.
11th-Oct-2007 11:20 pm (UTC) - Kamei in San Francisco
Kamei is a store that sells household wares and restaurant supplies in San Francisco. The bento stuff is in the house wares section but there are also restaurant style bento in the restaurant supply section. The restaurant supply section is also where they sell the hashi/chopsticks and holding cases. Their stock and variety of bento boxes varies and can either be large or small depending on how recently they restocked. I've bought about five different bento boxes from there, all of them "man sized" for my personal appetite.
Anyway:

Kamei
525-547 Clement Street (& 7th Avenue cross street)
San Francisco, CA 94118-2323
Phone: (415) 933-8508 or (415) 666-3688 or (415) 415) 666-3699

Hours: 9am-7pm daily
13th-Oct-2007 08:27 pm (UTC)
New York City

Sunrise Mart
494 Broome Street
New York, NY 10012
(212) 219-0033
-They sell a ton of Japanese food, from fresh bento boxes to frozen croquettes. There are a few different men's bento boxes and zoijirushi brand thermos bentos on the second level, and onigiri molds and sauce containers by the entrance.

3rd-Feb-2008 06:51 am (UTC) - Atlanta updates
Super H Mart - Riverdale:
There are only a handful of lunch jars left in the "housewares". There are some smaller items in another kitchen item section on the far left-hand side of the store, along with a few more lunch jars.

Pica Pica - Discover Mills Mall
Not a good source. They may have a few bento items left, but it's becoming an anime store. What little is left is marked down, though, but it's not worth a special trip.

Have been to Buford Highway Farmers Market and Super H in Duluth in recent weeks. Good for the larger items - bento boxes, lunch jars - but light on the smaller items and tools.
